A competition by invitation to design new administrative offices for the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens. In contrast to the Cultural Centre across the street — a cube encased in horizontal bands of marble — we imagined an asymmetrical building clad in a vertical forest of bamboo (?) poles, suggesting a creative dialogue between the artists and administrators. The rhythm of the surface and the gaps in the façade also encourage interaction with the local community, a metaphor for the centre’s mission to make culture more accessible to everyone.
