pied á terre
Kolonaki, Athens, 2018
To maximise both the floorplan and outdoor areas, we extended this residence right up to boundary of the plot, but turned the property inwards. The glass-walled ground floor is protected from passers-by by a perimeter fence, while the rooms on the upper level turn their back to the street and face the garden. The enclosed steel and concrete structure is juxtaposed with expansive glass partitions at ground level, creating the impression that the living areas are a seamless extension of the gardens. The entrance is situated on the side of the building, cut out of a concrete block to emphasise its unorthodox position.
